Hulu Desktop Invades Your PC and Mac

header_huludesktop

Hulu has injected upon the populous an even easier (and sinister) way to use your time, waste away hours, convert your brain into sludge, etc, etc. The overview on Hulu Lab’s site gives a better insight at exactly what we’ve got here:

Hulu Desktop is a lean-back viewing experience for your personal computer. It features a sleek new look that’s optimized for use with standard Windows Media Center remote controls or Apple remote controls, allowing you to navigate Hulu’s entire library with just six buttons. For users without remotes, the application is keyboard and mouse-enabled. Hulu Desktop is a downloadable application and will work on PCs and Macs.

This is just another instance of technology taking over our lifestyle. Soon enough we’ll all be like the hovering meat balloons on Wall-E. Thanks a lot Hulu, you evil bastards. Download Hulu Desktop.

Microsoft Confirms The Zune HD is Coming Fall 2009

header_zunehd

The rumors were true, those earlier leaked frames of the Zune HD have materialized into truth. Today Microsoft has officially announced the coming of their latest weapon, with it’s sights set on the iPod Touch. The new Zune HD will feature a 16:9 widescreen capacitive OLED with multitouch, HD Radio, HD video-out, Web Browsing, Zune Marketplace / Xbox Live connectivity, and of course your usual collection of accelerometers and sleek form factor design. What’s interesting and still under wraps is the Xbox / gaming potential of the device, if it’ll interface similiar to Apple’s App Store, or if it’ll welcome  XNA and other 3rd party developers to expand the device. The only release date we’ve gotten from Microsoft is “early fall” with pricing and capacities still unknown. The GUI hasn’t shown it’s face yet, and there are still a lot of questions left to be answered. We’ll keep you updated on any developments, but for now, enjoy the few images we’ve gathered, and read the full press release after the break.

Packaging Design Makes a Difference

header_packagingdesign

It’s the first thing you see when you walk into a store looking for something, and in some cases it finds you first. Most people will tell you it’s not a big factor in their purchasing decisions, but there’s a reason why we’re addicted to Starbucks, a reason why brand loyalty exists. It takes a lot of foresight and attention to detail for companies to craft an image for themselves, and with products what really catches people’s attention first and foremost is packaging. A balance of design aesthetics, color, composition, functionality, and form. All these ingredients separate good packaging design from mediocre. We’ve gathered up some nice examples of packaging for your eyes to enjoy.

The Crystal Method - Divided By Night

header_crystalmethod

After 5 years, The Crystal Method is back with their latest album, Divided By Night. If you’re a fan of the early Crystal Method sound, you’ll definitely lose yourself in the meticulously crafted instrumentals. The mood has definitely matured and mellowed, much to the same effect as Linkin Park’s musical progression. The featured artist list has taken a the spotlight on the album, and it’s the first album The Crystal Method recorded in their newly built sound studio, Crystalwerks. They’re back on tour, and eager to get back into the studio to work on remixes and tracks for their next album. Don’t forget to check out the music video of one of my favorite tracks on the new album: Drown In The Now, featuring Matisyahu. The video is embedded after the break…

Coming Soon: The Apple Multitouch Netbook Tablet

header_applenetbook

It’s finally coming. There’s enough evidence to confirm Apple is up to something in the “Netbook” realm. Starting with some juicy ( and for once, reliable ) sources including Reuters, Dow Jones, and The Commercial Times reported that Apple has ordered a significant lot of 9.7″ multitouch panels from a company called Wintek. Top that off with a handful of multitouch patents and filings hinting at OSX integration with touch devices, and you’ve got yourself a pretty convincing story. Rumor has it that Steve himself is working on this upcoming device while away from Apple HQ, with the company planning for a Q3 release. In the spirit of driving speculation and expectations, we’ve included some of the best mockups we could find online. Enjoy!

Confirmed: Next Blizzard MMO Based On Original IP

blizzard_newipmmo

Just when you thought you’ve kicked that World of Warcraft addiction, or you’re face-down in Azeroth like Tony Montana, Blizzard’s community manager Zarhym has posted a comment in the official World of Warfraft forums confirming an MMO based on an original IP:

“We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it’s a shell of a game thus far. We’ve already stated it’ll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch. It’s an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this.”

Back in early February, Jeff “Tigole” Kaplan, Game Director for World of Warcraft, announced that he was leaving the team to work on an unannounced Blizzard MMO. This Next-Gen MMO is reportedly being developed on the World of Warcraft engine until various development teams catches up with the rest of the production pipeline. So what’s with the Diablo 3 image? Who cares. Tyrael is badass, and there’s no doubt in my mind that Blizzard is going follow tradition and hit another homerun with this new franchise.
